Off to a Great Start...

The 2011 Fall Ball baseball season is underway. The boys came out and played right where they left off from the summer season. Thomas pitched 1 2/3 innings with three strike outs. Ian came in and threw hard for 1 1/3 innings. And Preston pitch a solid 4th inning. The offense was good with nearly everyone getting a hit, walk, or hit by a pitch. Unfortunately, the young team we played combined with excellent pitching, there wasn't many opportunities to test the defense. Great game, boys. Keep up the good work for the rest of the season.

Great 2011 Season for Team Stix

Playing in the state tournament marks the end of the 2011 season. The team grew in many ways and all players contributed at some point in the season. At some points in the season, defense was great and near perfect. We beat teams we shouldn't have and lost focus and games to team we should have beat. I think I can speak for all the coaches when I say, "This team has surpassed all [our] expectations." It was a fun season. Looking forward, everyone has stuff to work on and get better. The coaching staff has learned a few things that we need to work on. The players need to work on physical and mental toughness. All-in-all, I think everyone looks forward to Fall Ball at Southwest Boys Club. I'm extremely proud to be part of this team and I think each of our players are going to go on to great things both on and off the field. --- Coach Matt

2011 State Tournament

Team Stix played a fun state tournament and gained a lot of experience this past weekend. They came out a little flat on the first day of the tournament getting beat by the Mulvane Wildcats 26 - 3. In the afternoon game, the Stix played a very solid Hays Hornets team and lost 17 - 1. The score does reflect how well the boys played, it one of their best this year. On Saturday, the Stix played a lightening-shorted game again the Wichita Panthers. The game was back and forth but ultimately, the Panthers edged out the Stix 10 - 8 in an early Sunday morning finale.

Rough game for the Stix against the Dirtbags...

The boys struggled last night in a 14 - 5 loss. The keys to the game were "being prepared", "focus", and "hitting." The team hit well last night but were unprepared and unfocused. Hunter T. had one of the 5 RBIs breaking an early-season hitting slump. The Stix helped the Dirtbags with a bunch of errors in the field. Ending on the positive, pitching was excellent!!! Cole, Conner, and Colby threw a bunch of strikes and only combined for one walk. Way to go boys! The Stix are playing in The Dugout Shootout tournament this weekend at SWBC. The first game is Friday at 9:15p.

Stix WIN!!! Over Road Runners

The Stix played awesome on May 3rd against the Road Runners. The team was aggressive on the base paths and defense was great. Mattingly threw a complete game (5 innings); lots of strikes! Marshall played an excellent game behind the plate. Colby caught two fly balls in center field. Team Stix got a few hits, but it was base running that made the difference. The Stix win 6 - 4.

The Stix defense was really good on Wednesday against a solid Mulvane Wildcats team. Cole started the game on the mound and pitched well. Cole could have thrown harder but he threw a lot of strikes. Mattingly came in in-relief and finished out the game. Once again the 3rd inning was trouble for the Stix getting run-ruled. In the last inning, Colby was able to score on a poor throw from the catcher to the pitcher and avoid getting shut-out. Stix loose 9-1. The next Stix game is May 3rd at 8p against the Road Runners.

The Stix played tough but came up a little short..

Mattingly started the game on the mound and started a little slow but found his rhythm. Mattingly went 3 2/3 and threw about 50 pitches. Colby came in to finish out the inning. Cole closed the game will a couple strong innings. The score was close the whole game. Late in the game, Thomas and Marshall were thrown out at the plate with aggressive base running. A couple of errors in the infield ended up being the difference in the game. The Stix lost 9 - 6.

Start of Regular Season Play

Team Stix faced the Sharks on Monday night to open regular season league play. Much like the tournament game against the Sharks, the game was back and forth. The pitching was good and the boys played excellent defense. Ultimately, some opportune walks, aggressive play on the bases, and key hits were the difference. Team Stix edged ahead in the bottom of the 5th to take the win over the Sharks.

2011 Spring Fling Pre-Season Tournament

The boys played really well in the Spring Fling Tournament. Team Stix first game was Friday night and they held there own against a very mature Titans team. After the first inning, Team Stix was down 2 to 1. Unfortunately, the storms that everyone was watching moved over the ball fields and the game was postponed until Saturday morning. The boys came out and played but lacked some energy and lost to the Titans.

In the 2nd round, the boys played the Sharks. It was a battle to the end. Late in the game, the Sharks made a run to catch up but the door was slammed shut by good pitching and outstanding defense.

In the 3rd round, Team Stix faced the Augusta Royals. The Royals were a very mature team with a great pitching staff. Both teams ended the game with only one hit but the difference was pitching. The Royals won big and went on to the next round.

Baseball in 2011...

It's that time of year of again. Dust off the bats, balls, and gloves; the boys of summer are getting ready for the summer baseball season. Team Stix is playing in the Southwest Boys Club league this season. Last fall, the team was exposed to kid-pitch baseball and learned a lot. The team has had a couple practices this spring. Hitting already looks good. Pitchers and catchers are looking to get back to where they were last fall.
